I haven’t been taking in nearly enough concerts lately, but a show last week more than made up for it. Sia performed at Richard’s on Wednesday night and she put on an awesome show. I saw her back in October (which was the last concert I went to prior to this one, thereby confirming the opening statement) at the Media Club and the intimate setting was a great way to see her live for the first time. The sound system at Richard’s however allowed her amazing voice to truly take shape. I am hard pressed to think of a more unique and astounding voice making new music right now. Her on-stage performance is vibrant, humble, and passionate all at the same time. My favourites on the night were Academia, and Death by Chocolate. Her breakthrough song Breathe Me will always be a favourite – simply goes without saying. My friend, N, got a shout out from Sia as she returned to stage for the encore and dedicated Somersault to him. You can check out his review of the show and some pics on his blog: eatmorecrods at blogspot. I pull in as the second biggest Sia fan I know, after him 🙂
Before I get to the setlist I should make mention of the opening act: Har Mar Superstar. The trouble is, what to mention exactly, other than it was the most eye-holding opening act I have ever witnessed. I’ll let N’s review and pictures do the description, even though neither of them truly do his performance justice – no words or pictures could. If you have not heard much of Sia then I strongly encourage you to check out her new album: Some People Have REAL Problems. Apparently it’s available in Starbucks.
Thanks to N, A, and their friends for a great night, and I look forward to Sia’s return.
