ABOUT THE BLOG & The BLOG NAME
The primary aim of the blog is to consider the balance and imbalance in our lives, relationships, and communities. There are a multitude of secondary aims, including poking fun at the author, so go right ahead, he does it all the time. The original post for Être ou Avoir is recommended reading as it might provide more insight into why this oddity got started. Other topics besides balance make their way onto the blog (photography, pro-cycling, film, concerts) as promoting conversation and learning new things are worthwhile alone. The name? It was inspired by, and is a slight twist on, a French documentary that relates to some things the author has done in his different lives. However, the doc was certainly not the sole reason for the name. Being and having are perhaps the simplest, yet deepest aspects of balance. Sometimes only one of them can exist in a situation, sometimes both, and perhaps, sometimes neither. Does that make sense? I’m not sure, can you help? We’ll try to figure it out together. Lately the blog has been a lot about things I think are cool, questions I have, or reflections I think all three of the readers might be interested in. Maybe that’s in-line with being and having – maybe not. If you have thoughts, please put them below, or comment on a post.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
True judgment should come from how you are treated, not on what is written or spoken about someone, including the author. However, in case you’re interested in some meaningful, yet mainly meaningless facts, here we go. The author currently eats most of his meals in British Columbia, Canada. Detesting the word occupation, he wonders what he will be when he grows up. While he probably won’t play in the show, the game gave him far more opportunities than it does for most. He is passionate about values, and strives to be a person that makes values come alive. Many other activities and relationships are more important in his life than blogging, so please forgive him if he hasn’t posted in a while – he will return. He enjoys a wide range of pursuits, mainly along the lines of Education, Sport, Outdoor Activity, and Friendship. Some of these are pictured here. Hopefully, he is off engaged in one of them right now. He likes to use dashes in his writing – a habit he picked up while pretending – something he does well – the pretending that is – not necessarily the writing or using dashes part. If given the opportunity to have dinner with a key figure from history he is unsure if he would choose Robert McNamara, Plato, Martin Luther King Jr., or Terry Fox. If given the choice of anyone from history, he is sure to choose his grandfathers. He may have invented Rock-Paper-Scissors. He honks at badminton (that’s bad). File footage suggests he may have looked like this at one time. Here are 25 more things, and from time to time other meaningless facts about him may find their way here if you’re interested. You can follow him on twitter @i_rober, or on flickr as irober. If you have questions, simply ask, although the answer is usually 7. Let’s continue to pretend this is going well.
ABOUT YOU
You are part of the conversation. You are part of the balance. The fulcrum cannot be found alone. You have cool ideas and questions that have nothing to do with balance that are worth sharing. You roll your eyes at some of the thoughts I put up here. You come to this blog by many different avenues. Perhaps you are a friend and heard about it in conversation, or you’re a photo buff and came through the flickr account, or followed me on twitter, or you were creeping on facebook, or you are creeping on wordpress (a much better creep). You are to be commended for actually reading this far and deserve a treat. The treat does actually change from time to time, so check it again if this is a return trip for you. However, you haven’t written any comments, or asked any questions in a while. Do that, and you are truly to be commended, and will most likely get a note back from me. Conversing is better than monologue.
Thus, comments, questions, critiques, links, anything by you is STRONGLY encouraged. They can come on this blog, through email, over the phone, IM, or best of all – in person.
Thanks for stopping by, general comments and questions can go below. Please come again.
A bientôt
